The same old story
Sorry for the late post. Yeah yeah I claim to be a great lover of the Nation, though I’m late for 5 days. Five days back, it was the 61st Republic day of our country. There is only couple of days in a year when we remember the sacrifices of the patriots, what happened in the year 1950 or about our constitution makers and their aim behind choosing a "Parliamentary form of the Government" etc etc.. But I'm gonna write something else.
Well, asusual I started my day on the NET. My friends wished me and I wished them, and then went to hear the Prime minister’s speech on the TV which I do every year. Patriotic songs were being playing everywhere. There is only “couple of days” in a year when you can hear these songs. Coming back to the speech, the same old story, “we did this” “we achieved that” etc etc… The PM was reading a script which was written by his bureaucrats and approved by the party high command. .
When my maid came to work she asked me: “Mimi is there any special occasion today?” I was not shocked at all. You know why? Because few days ago, in a TV channel, they were asking people on the street, “Why do we celebrate Republic day?” Most of them couldn’t give the answer. Most of them were the youngsters; EDUCATED YOUGSTERS UNFOTUNATELY. Isn’t it sad? May be there are 60% population of our country who don’t have any idea about 26th January. For the people of economically backward classes, it is hard to arrange even a piece of bread; for them it doesn’t matter is their country a “republic” or not or what our country has achieved or Mission Chandrayan or Nuke deal or how we remained unaffected from the ‘Global economic crisis’. Or for the middle class people, inflation is the biggest matter of worry; the rising price of vegetables and the essential commodities etc Or for an unemployed guy, it doesn't matter whether it is 61 st or 71 st republic day...
I’ve heard people saying, “The future of the country is hopeless. Politics is a dirty place; so we love to stay away from it”. Great… Close your eyes… Politics and the politicians are the part of your country. May be for these people, our country has become a puppet of some tyrannical politicians.
A guy got a job in the police. He was so happy but I was shocked when he said: “This is the ‘office of profit’. I’ll be rich within a few years”. Wow. This is the “future of India ”.
In the history, I went through about the injustice and the tortures which the British used to do with us. They were the outsiders. But after 60 years of Independence on the issue of land acquisition, the brutal act which the " insider" West Bengal govt did that lagged the "outsider" British behind.
Last month on 6th was the 17th year of demolition of Babari masjid. Before that Liberhan commission’s report came. It was a clear case of ‘vote bank’ politics…..They don't even hesitate to use "religion" kind of thing for the "POWER".
61st Republic day….. But is our country truly a “SOVEREIGN, SOCIALIST, SECULAR, DEMOCRATIC, REPUBLIC?”
