Is India the property of some tyrannical politicians?
The 26th January, 1950, was a red letter day in the long & chequered history of India. For, on that day the present Constitution of India was brought into force which announced to the world the birth of a new republic. Establishment of a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic Republic. The framers were aware of the difficulties faced in the working of the Constitution. This was reason that they made provisions to avoid defects & loopholes that might come in the future in the working of the Indian Constitution. But that time, they didn’t have any idea that one day some “opportunist”, “power lover” “tyrannical” politicians would change the meaning of these words like “socialism”, “Secularity”,” democracy” and they’d make us think that “do we really live in a country which is a ‘Democratic’, ‘republic’.?”

There are ample of example in the history of Indian politics that politicians misuse their power by showing thumb to the constitution. Such aweful behaviour are not new including the waving wards of cash inside the house & MLAs hurling chairs at each other. Even I can write a book based on that issue. But the incident, happened in the oath taking ceremony in Maharashtra Legislative assembly, made the whole Nation shocked.

9th November was the day, when ministers of the newly formed Government of the Maharashtra Bidhan Sabha were taking oath. The proceedings of the Legislative assembly started smoothly. Several members were taking oath, wary of an “open letter” by MNS (Maharashtra Navanirman Sena) chief Raj Thackery, urging all 288 legislators to take the oath in Marathi. The mess started when the State Samajwadi Party chief Abu Asim Azmi went to take oath in Hindi. Even as he uttered the first few words in Hindi, MNS members sprang up and rushed towards Azmi. As he continued to take the oath in Hindi, one of MNS member uprooted the microphone and threw that away. They surrounded Azmi and punched him. Protem speaker had to adjourn the House for half an hour and 4 MNS leaders were suspended for 4 years.

Shockingly after such aweful behaviour, MNS remained defiant and vowed to challenge the suspension in court. I’m really shocked. Actually like me, those who have read the Constitution of India, for them entire incident is quite confusing. To clear the confusion, I once again opened the book on Indian Constitution. But I didn’t find any article which says in which language a legislator should take oath. That means a legislator can take oath in Hindi, English or any regional language. Not only this one, but the Agendas like regional chauvinism (outsiders wouldn’t be allowed to live& work in Maharashtra), all these leave a question “what is the reason behind such acts?”

The answer is simple. “VOTE BANK”. “Constitution”, “humanity” they haven’t heard these words. Only thing they know is “the vote bank”. We know every thing. Though it is shocking that still Election Commission hasn’t banned this political party yet.

To fight against cross border terrorism or external aggressions there is the Army. But what about these people who struck at the very roots of India’s Constitutional Democracy, should they not to be considered as the terrorists, who are inside our country?

Well think about it.
